Global–Shape from Motion and Shading for 3D–Object–Based Analysis–Synthesis Coding

چکیده
In OBASC based on the source model ”moving textured rigid 3D objects with non–diffuse illumination” the shape of model objects describing real objects is estimated from the silhouettes of the real objects assuming an ellipsoid–like shape. In this paper, the image analysis is extended by a global shape estimation method evaluating directly the image signal. By one global shape parameter, the depth of a model object is scaled in direction of the lines of sight. The extension of OBASC image analysis reduces the data rate necessary for a test sequence showing a textured, rapidly moving ball from 107 kbit/s to 101 kbit/s.

An Illumination Estimation Method for 3D–Object–Based Analysis–Synthesis Coding
In video telephone scenes to be transmitted at low data rates, non–diffuse illumination has to be expected. Therefore, in this work the scene illumination is automatically estimated from a monocular image sequence in addition to shape and motion of moving objects. Image analysis uses the source model ”moving rigid 3D objects with nonuniform local illumination”. The irradiance is modelled by a d...
متن کاملThe influence of shape-from-shading information on the perception of global motion
The visual system is able to infer three-dimensional (3D) shape from the surface shading-gradient of objects. Using Global Dot Motion (GDM) stimuli, we investigated the influence of shape from shading on the perception of coherent local and global motion. In Experiment 1, we report that the visual system is unable to detect the local motion of dots that undergo a change in 3D shape (convex to c...
متن کاملDetection of Shading for Object–based Coding
In this paper, a new algorithm for detection of synthesis errors due do object shading under directed illumination for object–based analysis–synthesis coding (OBASC) is presented. The idea of OBASC is to transmit luminances and chrominances only in image regions of model failure. In these regions, synthesis errors are visible between a real image of an image sequence and the decoded image synth...
متن کاملComputing 3D models of rotating objects from moving shading
This work reconstructs 3D graphics model of an object from an image sequence taken during the object rotation. Shading and its motion information are used in estimating shapes of smooth surfaces between fixed edges from corners and patterns. Being different from conventional shape from shadings that use one or several images, we use an image sequence that provides not only shading but also its ...
متن کامل3D Models Recognition in Fourier Domain Using Compression of the Spherical Mesh up to the Models Surface
Representing 3D models in diverse fields have automatically paved the way of storing, indexing, classifying, and retrieving 3D objects. Classification and retrieval of 3D models demand that the 3D models represent in a way to capture the local and global shape specifications of the object. This requires establishing a 3D descriptor or signature that summarizes the pivotal shape properties of th...
